Book Dash is a not-for-profit, South African social impact publisher that specializes in open, African picture books for very young children. Their evidence-based vision is that every child should own a hundred books by the age of five, well before starting school. They focus on creating, translating, printing, and distributing beautiful African picture books to preschool children to enhance early years book ownership.

By providing relevant, quality books to very young children and their families, Book Dash supports all aspects of a child's lifelong development and promotes positive parenting practices. Starting early maximizes the benefits, based on evidence that having access to quality books at home supports a child's development in significant ways.

To achieve their goals, Book Dash has innovated a unique 12-hour publishing model that significantly reduces the time and costs of creating such books. They assemble teams of creative professionals who volunteer to produce new, African storybooks in a single day. These books are then made available worldwide, allowing anyone to freely translate, print, and distribute high-quality books to children.

Book Dash collaborates with funding and distribution partners to supply physical copies of these books to hundreds of thousands of children and families, enabling them to own them. Research underscores the importance of book ownership in a child's holistic early development and their lifelong academic and economic success, highlighting that the impact of book ownership can surpass a child’s socio-economic status and is only matched by the educational level of the parents.

By working collectively to increase the number of books in the homes of very young children, Book Dash aims to break the cycle of inequality permanently.
